A few days later, Dhiablos, after a lot of thought about what Roque said, got dressed, cleaned his teeth and sobered up. He shut the apartment door behind him, went down the stairs and out the building, down to the brick building a few streets away.
The apartment remained a mess.
He entered the theives' den, ignored several waves and greetings until he found who he was looking for. She looked up from her handbag and back down again. "Oh, it's you." "Where is she?" "Who?" said Fly, looking at him with false innocence. "Don't give me that. Where's Roque?" "What do you want to talk to her for anyway?" "As opposed to what, talking to you?" "Perhaps." Dhiablos sighed, his temper really beyond breaking. "I'm in no mood to talk to you, you left me out there for the fuzz." Fly stared. Gone was the softness in his eyes. It was there, but it was hiding. A penetrating cold hardened in his eyes right now. "She's gone back to the docks." "Docks?" "Her crew, she's gone back." "Why?" "That I don't know." "Well we're going to go look for her then, aren't we?" Fly frowned. "Why? She obviously wants to go." "I don't." Fly gave him a look. Dhiablos blushed. "Well, I can't miss that, can I?" "Oh shut up."

Dark clouds rolled across the sky menacingly. The cloudy day from four days ago had evolved into a storm. A light shower fell down Neopia Central, slicking the sidewalks and roads slightly, much do the frustration of a certain teenager. thud. "Oh-ho, very smooth. I'm sure Roque well be impressed by that." Dhiablos stood up, swearing between clenched teeth. He'd landed on his already injured wrist. "You know, you could fly us there, being a korbat and all." he said, catching up with her. They were running to the Central docks before Roque left for Krawk Island. Dhiablos, who would have normally gone a little more disguised, especially after that close call, was wearing a white shirt and jeans, that was all. If he was spotted, well, it was cuffs for him. But it was an emergency. He didn't know exactly why he didn't want Roque going anywhere - perhaps he liked her more than a friend? Dhiablos shook that concept out of his mind. Of course not. She'd never like him that way anyway. What kind of a comment was that? If they were just friends, why would he care? "What, with these things in that weather?" said Fly, lifting her wings slightly and bringing Dhia back to Earth. "I don't think so." "Fine, just hurry up will you?" "-oof, sorry, excuse me-" "Smooth Fly. Just walk into that lady why don't ya? 'scuse me-" "Oh shut up - pardon - where'd all these people come from?" "-terribly sorry- dunno, must be trying to get inside before it rains." "Look! there's the jetty!" Fly had skidded round the bend and was pointing to the shores, where the waves were choppy and a fork of lightning lit up the sky. "Where is she?" "I dunno - there!" Fly pointed to a very unseaworthy-looking ship where sure enough, Roque was scrubbing decks. "I thought you said she was a captain?" "I thought she was, it's what she told me." There was a clap of thunder, and a sheet of rain. "Look - Dhia - you go get her, I'm getting out of this rain before it totally ruins my hair." "Fine." said Dhia, rolling his eyes as Fly ran off to a building. It was a pub, but that's beside the point. "Roque!" Dhiablos ran down the jetty to where Roque's ship was docked. Rain pelted the faded wood like bullets. Dhia was soaked to the skin. "Roque!" Roque looked up from scrubbing, rubbing water out of her eyes. Dhiablos leant on the side of the boat and looked at her. "What's the point of scrubbing decks in the rain?" "Aye, that's what I said." she replied in a hard tone, and continued scrubbing. "Well you could stop." "And what, Dhia? Get thrown into the bowels of the ship without food?" "I thought you were a captain." he argued. "Oh yes," she retorted sarcastically, "a captain who returns to land to steal?" "You told the lie, I didn't." "Well it beats being on land anyway." "Right." frowned Dhia, having trouble seeing her in the cascading sheets of rain. "Scrubbing decks in a downpour, as opposed to-" "-opposed to what, sleeping on the streets and stealing food?" "Well I was going to say in a nice comfortable bed or at least a matress." Roque gave a hollow laugh. "I sleep on the streets, Dhiablos." "Why didn't you say anything? You could have easily stayed with either me or Fly." "Captains don't sleep on the street." "You're not a-" "I know." she said. "I know." "Yarrgh, get inside an' peel potatoes ya worthless bilgerat!" The Captain of the ship came striding down and kicked the bucket across the deck. "Yes Cap'n." Pirates began to tie ropes to other ropes that had names that Dhia didn't know, unfolded sails and hoisted the anchor. They were going to leave soon. "Roque," said Dhia, still standing on the jetty in the rain. Roque turned, picking up the bucket. "What is it? I have to go -" "You're not really going are you?" "Aye." she nodded. "There's nothing keeping me here." "But," he started, unsure of what to say, "Suppose there was something that was keeping you here, and you didn't know it-?" "- Dhia, I really have to-" "-and when you did realise that you needed them," he said, raising his voice and talking over her, "suppose that it was too late to do anything about it-?" his voice shook. "-Dhiablos, I-" "-and you lived life in constant regret? What of that?" There was a pause, and only the cries of pirates and rain on rotting wood could be heard.

The sails billowed in the gale of the storm, the waves choppy and foreboding. The ship was going to leave soon. "I've got to go. I'm starting a new life on Krawk Island-" "-But.." "But what?" "You, you can't.." "Why?" "Because..'cause I need you here, Roque, and.." Roque sighed and leant down near him. "I will miss you." She kissed him on the cheek. "Goodbye," she whispered, turning back to the deck, picking up the bucket and dashing off. "Bye!" he yelled after her, his voice faltering. The boat started to leave. He swept his wet hair out of his face and watched the boat sail away roughly through the choppy waves. Tears brimmed his eyelids and fell, mingling with rain. He remembered sitting in the gutter near his house, and what he'd promised himself. He smiled a lopsided smile ironically. Dhiablos shoved his hands in his pockets, directed his gaze down and walked back down the streets in the rain. Water clogged his already worn-out shoes. Then, for absolutely no reason he could fathom, he tripped over.

(( changed my mind, I don't think I'll use Ves here just yet ))
"Oof!" His foot hit the curb and he stumbled onto the pavement, clutching his wrist. "Ouch..." He swore again, sitting in the rain. Someone walked somewhere near and sat down next to him. It was Fly. "I thought you had to get out of the rain before," Dhia put on a high-pitched, girly voice, "'totally ruined your hair?'" Fly scowled. "It already had, and besides, they wouldn't let me in, I was too wet." Dhiablos unbandaged and re-bandaged his wrist. "So I take it Roque left already then?" Dhiablos nodded quietly, finishing the bandage on his wrist and staring out into the street. "You liked her, didn't you?" Dhiablos shrugged. "I guess. We were friends is all, mostly." He hadn't thought of liking Roque that way until she was leaving. He didn't really hold an attraction for her. He had more feelings for Cera.
(( more coming soon, I forgot what else I was gonna write xD ))

"So what happens now?" said Dhiablos glumly, water seeping in his already waterlogged shoes. With every step, they made a funny squelching noise and let out water, only to soak in more from the pavement. "Well I'd better get back to the shop or something - oh, you should go to the den, someone wants to see you," "Who?" he asked. "I dunno, one of the head theives, the ones we don't talk to." replied Fly, waving the question away with her hand. "Oh... okay, well I'll see you later then." "Bye." Fly spread her wings and took off into the night, towards her shop. Rain was still falling. "HEY!" yelled Dhiablos after her, "YOU SAID YOU COULDN'T FLY IN THIS WEATHER!" Fly just replied with a wave, and glided away.
