The small serpent wriggled, feathers perking in all directions as he struggled to look up at his holder’s face. The mother of the new born neopet was cleaning the shards from his egg, a grin on her face as she contemplated how such a creature came to their lives. No one had ever heard of a hissi before they received the news from the planet that they had been appearing recently. Let alone the fact that one would be the offspring of a pteri and a krawk. Despite the strangeness of the newest addition to the family, the other members of the space station were more than ecstatic about the baby boy. “Just wait, someday he’ll be doing great things for the station,” his father commented to those who had come to see the hatching of the young hissi. Though most everyone had never seen a hissi before the message form Neopia came, they were fairly certain most didn’t have feathers. Everyone assumed the bright crest of feathers came from his mother. The little green snake yawned after giving up his investigation of his father, and snuggled to sleep. Eventually everyone filtered off, exclaiming last congrats to the couple and returning to their normal duties. The mother fluttered over, taking the newborn in her wings. “He needs a name,” she pointed out, looking up into the eyes of her husband, covered by his visor as he prepared for patrol. He looked down at the hissi, the look of contemplation not long on his face. “Gorrio, how’s that?” he asked, stroking the boy’s feathers before strapping on his belt. “Gorrio? It’ll do,” the pteri responded, her beak breaking into a smile.

aww, I can imagine the cute baby hissi with feathers and stuff ^^
and actually, biologically speaking, chances are you'd probably get a hissi from a pteri & krawk duo - theory is that birds evolved from dinosaurs, which were reptiles, and they're actually quite closely related.

In a few years the youngster was adapting well for life in the Neopia Space Protection (NSP). Not to be confused with Sloth’s station, a group of Neopets had built this one as a position to monitor Neopia’s safety from space. The Space Faerie herself was said to have helped in its construction. Now though, its occupants were at relative peace, they’re only jobs at the moment being patrolling the space area and rescuing the occasional grundo from Sloth. Since his parents were busy with they’re jobs, he was placed in the small nursery with the other young pets. Not that there were many aboard the station. There were only him, a girl wocky and boy nimmo. His future comrades as it would turn out. The three of them led pretty basic lives on the station, learning how to operate basic machinery, locating constellations, learning how to spot landmarks on the planet’s surface, how to read a radar, etc. They’re younger years were filled with this sort of routine, so I will not divulge in it. But I will tell you a bit more about his friends. Roturra the wocky, all cloud colored fluff, was a charming girl, smart like the other two, and extremely nice. She insisted on sharing everything with the other two, whom she somewhat considered to be just her quarreling brothers. Marranthus, meanwhile, was quieter than the other two, possible the smartest and best with machines. Though most didn’t give him much credit when it came to looks, looking a bit more like a twig than even other nimmo, the speckled amphibian treated everyone with respect. That is, when he and Gorrio weren’t arguing over a trivial matter. They’re lives went on like this for several years, the bickering eventually diminishing completely.

Gorrio waited, his tail flicking impatiently. Roti and Mars had already gotten their results of the previously taken job interveiw, and had already left. Gorrio stood with his tail flicking across the floor, waiting with the other two for they're turn to be formally instated as cadets. His mother was doing her best to resettle his feathers, while his father was giving a few words of wisdom to the two neopets we weren't born on the space station. The small group waited outside the room till the intercom rang out. "All right, send Gorrio in."
Like a switch the hissi slid to the door, taking a calming breath before opening it. Sitting at the desk opposite was the head of the spacestation, the red kyrii watching Gorrio over crossed fingers. Over his shoulder one could see the screen showing the NSP base leader, a starry acara, with a similar look of seriousness. Gorrio gave a salute, and the head of the spacestation gestured to the chair in front of him. Gorrio sat wrapping his tail about him and keeping a serious face.
"So, Gorrio, you're one the last of the three born aboard the space station?" The base leader asked, looking down at some papers that must be in front of him. Gorrio nodded, "Yes sir." The kyrii at the desk turned, looking up at the screen and nodded. "Well Gorrio, we've decided that considering you're history here and your interveiw, we have decided to grant you an official position aboard the space station."
Gorrio couldn't help but grin, thanking the two heartily. The kyrii and acara exchanged smirks, and the red spacestation leader started smiling.
"I know I'm supposed to stay serious during these, but I can't help it. Watching you three grow up, you might as well be the children of everyone onboard here. We're glad to have you Gorrio." He got up, coming over and patting the hissi o the shoulder. Gorrio started laughing, and even the base leader grinned.
"Glad to be here, sir," he repsonded getting up. Once the kyrii had made it back to his seat Gorrio gave the two a salute, taking leave of the office.
As he exited, his mother gave him a hug, his father patting him on the back. "Why don't you head to the bridge? I'll stay here with these youngsters till they're finished," the krawk said, nodding two the other two neopets standing nerviously against the wall. Gorrio nodded, following his mother to the bridge, grinning the whole way.

Upon entering the large space, goriro was instantly greeted by cheers. A bundle of cloud colored fur filled his vision as Roti hugged him, and Mars came giving him a friendly nudge.
"So you made it? That's good. I guess you got lucky," the nimmo joked, girnning wide as Gorrio playfully whacked his head. "Yeah, yeah, enough with the jokes," the hissi replied, looking around the bridge as almost all the occupants of the spacestation came to congratulate him.
After a while the leader of the spacestation entered, trailed by Gorrio's father and the two new cadets. The bidge couldn't have been more like a party if it were decked out in decoration. Everyone enjoyed the event, and after a while a few gifts were brought out for the new cadets.
Gorrio grinend as he took his box, and all the others recieved similar sized packages. The red kyrii standing nearby gave them the ok to open them, and the five young neopets pulled their gifts from the boxes.
Gorrio wasn't the only one to gasp. They had received they're cadet uniform, but everyone's helmet was different. The hissi was smiling as wide as possible as he turned the glinted metal about in his hand. The gold paint shone brand new, the blue lights standing out. The visor itself was green, and as he slipped it on he could feel his crest slipping through the opening for it, standing straight up in his exictment. The others had all garbed they're helmets and the parents of the three friend grinned to each other, coing forward with three more boxes.
"All right, Roti, Mars, Gorrio, we were able to talk the station into allowing something a bit different as gifts," Mars' father said, standing tall as he handed to box to his son. The others were handed theirs, and Roti's mother conitued, "It was actually harder to get permission for them than to get them, but the station eventually found a compromise for us."
The three friends glanced at each other before opening the boxes. If the gasps before weren't enough, the surprise on their faces made up for it. Gorrio looked absolutely flabbergasted as he removed his newest gift form the box. It struggled as he held it, watching him with it's small eyes.
The metal casing shone, and the large glowing orb on it's tail shone healthily. The buzzler said hello, before watching his new owner silently. Roti came over with her new flipperbot, leaving Mars busy with his robot boween.
All the occupants of the bridge now were either laughing or grinning. The spacestation leader, of course, gave the curcumstances. "Now, you have to care for them, and if they're at all meddlesome, we're sending them back to Neopia. Do you understand," the resounding nods affirmed a positive, and the kyrii grinned. "Well, then you have to name them, then."
It didn't take them long to come up with names, with everyone giving suggestions. Roti's flipperbot became Jaws, the boween Match, and Gorrio took the oddest suggestion form one of the other two new cadets who had been ignored. "Alright, from now on, you'll be Andrej," he told the small petpet in his arms. The metal turle-like creature nodded, probably fixing the name in it's memory.
It was some time before everyone started to move off, getting time for sleep for some and work for others. Goriro moved off with the group headed for the barracks, still grinning as everyone gossiped around him about one of the most memorable events aboard the spacestation.

Gorrio would have gone sliding across the floor with the explosion if he wasn't already against the wall. It was a few years since he and the other became cadets, and now the spacestation was locked in battle with sloth. He, Roti, and Mars had been on duty aboard, while the other two were flying, when the first attack came. Now the three stood watching as the normal bridge crews did they're best to help those in the feild.
The red kyrii was practically yelling at those working the consoles, everyone was stressed and nervious. Reports they were recieving from the flyers weren't too thrilling, they were slowly losing ground. Luckily there had been no injuries or casualties yet. But before long a few of Lsoth's forces had broken through their defences, and another solid blast rocked the station. And was followed by turmoil.
Gorrio watched as the damage report came in. The central powersource chamber had been hit, and the core was slowly becoming unstable. Most of those working down ther at the time had been knocked unconisous, but the one neopets who had reported.
"We need backup down here, sir, or we'll lose the entire station," the frantic man called, and the red kyrii snarled as he replied.
"I need almost everyone on board, but I'll send someone. Gorrio, Roti, Mars, can you work the machinery down there?"
The three nodded, having been taught that plenty of years before.
"Then get to it, and Hurry!" he finished, turning back to the screens as reports from the flyers came in. The three younger neopets turned, running and sliding down the hall to the main power center. None of them noticed the petpets following them
.....Mars opened the doors to chaos. lots of metal panels had fallen to the floor, and the cnetral core was sparking dangeriously from the exposed cables that now showed through. The neopets who had been injured earily gestured them to the consoles frantically. Gorrio and Roti took one, while Mars took the other, and furious typing began as they attempted to bring the core back down from its current critical location.
.....Gorrio threw his wings out to steady himself as the centeral room took another direct hit. Apparently things were getting worse outside. Roti wimpered, quickly returning to her drastic typing. An angry red light shone from Mars' console, accompanied by a frantic beeping. The nimmo paled, looking up at his comrades.
"The powersorce is about to go completely critical. Someone's going to have to go down to it and fix some of those wires." The three glanced down at the parking mess below. gorrio volunteered before either of the other two could say anyhting. He didn't want anyone getting hurt. "I'll go. You guys take care of these consoles," he ordered, slipping down to the mess.
He picked his way through the tangle of wires, , reaching up for the panel he needed to fix. He hoisted himself up higher on his tail, jumping as sparked rained from the panel. "Careful Gorrio," Roti warned, a worried expression on her face as she pounded the keyboard hectically. The hissi didn't respond, being to repair the wires the best he could. Behind him the buzzler Andrej had snuck, now standing at the bade of his tail, looking up and watching him.
......And then the event that changed Gorrio's life happened.

Gorrio struggled as he reconnected wires and taped up casings. At the consoles Mars had contacted the bridge, and the newest report was that they were making some headway, but they needed to powersource secure before they could do any major moves form here. The pressure was on as the three worked, even the injured worker trying to help Mars with pounding the console.
Andrej whimpered at Gorrio's tail, his own orb glowing brightly as he watched his owner battle with sparks. Another blast rocked the station, and Gorrio lost his balance, falling into the mess of wires and sparks.
....and the open ends of the cables he always wore to make quick repairs made contact with the open wires connected to the unstable energy. The opposite end of these wires had been lying on the hissi's chest, and as the wires caught the hissi hissed in pain. He fell back, the wires had gotten tagled up, leaving him hanging to the metal case for the power source. His friends jumped up, but they couldn't get close to him due to the frantic bolts of electricity dancing across his scales.
That, however, did not stop the loyal petpet. Andrej had started beeping frnatically, grabbing hold of Gorrio's tail and trying to pull him down. However, this did not bode well, between Gorrio's tail flinging about as he jerked from the electricity and the power being routed to the small robot. The buzzler went flying across the room as Gorrio shook it free, where Andrej crahsed into the wall, shutting down.
Eventually the power sparking from the wires stopped, and Roti ran down to get the unconsious hissi. As she did her best to pull him down, her mane almost instantly filled wiht static electricity, and sparks flared form Gorrio's scales as she pulled him down. Mars was busy had his console, sending a strange report to the commander.
"Sir, there's been an incident down here. gorrio was trying to repair some wires, and I'm not exactly sure what happened, but he got electricuted and now the power's reading normal," the nimmo said, fear staining the tone of his voice. The reply was almost instant.
"We're getting the same reading here, Marranthus. You and Roti get Gorrio and Sheer to the infirmary."
The two pets struggled through hallways, Mars almost dragging Gorrio and Roti helping the other cadet limp to the infirmary. When they got there, though, they were instantly rushed out after leaving their charges, hurried to the docking bay to replace someone else who had been injured.
The docters in the infirmary then began the challenge of figureing out how to help the hissi without short circuiting their equipment.

Gorrio mumbled, opening his eyes and trying to move, instantly regretting the thought. Pain shot through his whole body like neddles, and the few centimeter he had actually risen returned to zero as he fell back into the bed. He did his best to think clearly through the pain, but could barely recall anything at first. But between then and the time it took the nurse to arrive, he had pretty much pieced it together. So when she dod enter, she was instantly hounded ith questions.
"Is everything alright? Is everything stable? And Roti & Mars, are they ok?" these and other question raced through his mind to his mouth, eventually end with the nurse clambing a ruber cloves hand round his muzzle.
"Yes, everyone's is fine. We managed to beat Sloth, but you're in no shape to do anyhting, even ask questions, so just lie there and keep silent. Not permitted to argue with her, he lay back against the pillows, falling asleep with exhaustion.
Whne he woke again, His parents were looming over him, concerned looks on both their faces. The hissi did his best to reasure them with a grin, and actually managed to prop himself up again on the pillows. Now that he had a bit of energy and could actually put his thoughts together, he noticed he was almost completely bandaged, and lying on what appeared to be a sheet of rubber. With his movement his mother had squaked, reaching out to brush his crest back. He gave them a confused look, figuring now was as good a time as any to ask the question.
"What in space happened?"

His father sighed, and turned to the docter in the corner, dealing with machinery. His mother drew back as a green cpark flicked through his feathers, and more jumped fomr his scales as he sat up more. With a resigned look the doctor came over, leaving the surge protecter he had been working wth behind as he came to give the news.
"Gorrio, when you went to repair the powersource, one of those cables you always wore got caught in the machinery. The power surged through your body, it's a miracle you're alive." He paused, giving the hissi some time to comprehend the information. As the quizzical look began to lift, Gorrio promtped him to continue.
"Well, you had managed to fix the machine enough to stabalize the energy, and your partners Roturra and Marranthus brought you here with Sheer. But Gorrio, there's quite a few sideeffects of your escapade." the dostor said, getting a hesitant glance form Gorrio's parents.
Gorrio chuckled, "Besides windering me up in the infirmary covered in bandages?" The doctor sighed, his patience running low. "Most likely due to the fact that the electricity you were zapped with was unstable, it seems you're acting as a battery. You've been sending out electric bolts and sparks since they brought you here. It's made it quite difficult to take care of you." Gorrio frowned upon hearing this. He was generating electricity? Uncontrolled? What was he supposed to do about that? The doctor broke through his thoughts though, with one more peice of news.
"Wait, one of the other side effects we believe might be permanant is that you've changed color." his said, picking up a mirror he had lying by the bed for this purpose. Gorrio caught his mother's worred glance before leaning forward to take a better look. At first he couldn't figureout where the green light reflecting off the mirror came from, but after staring at his reflection for some time he figured it out.
"Wait, I'm glowing?" The nods around the room answered the question as the hissi turned his head to see if there were any other differences. Not much, other than a few bright green marks on his wings which seemed to be glowing yellow.
"Well, I guess I'll just have to deal with all this later," he said with a sigh, falling back onto the pillows to think everything through.
