The rain fell heavily outside on a Friday morning, not the kind of rain that comes in sheets of cascading water, but the kind that spots loudly on windows, making it quite hard to see outside. The sky was cloudy and Neopia Central was wet – though this didn’t slow shoppers bustling about the busy streets of the market. “The time is eight-thirty and the weather today is dang-right depressing, am I right? God, I swear that I’ve never seen anything greyer than that sky – no offence to all you mid-tone grey-scaled pets out there.” He flashed a brilliant, reptilian smile that nobody saw, “Anyway, this is Zeke in the morning and now my listeners I have to leave you with something new from M*YINCI. Zeke out!” He switched off the mike as M*YINCI’s latest tune (something about the sunshine on Mystery Island) and sat back in his leather chair, taking his headphones off. His green, scaly tail twitched slightly with the beat for a few moments, swaying with the acoustic guitar in the hapless boy-band’s song. Zeke stood up, pulled a jacket over his light overshirt and stared out the window with bright yellow eyes. He couldn’t help catching his reflection and admired himself shamelessly. Zeke was a green Techo and worked on Neopian Radio – Zeke in the Mornings from 6:00 to 9:00 only on Neopia’s coolest station, 98.5, bringing you the newest in Neopian music. He flashed another reptilian grin at his reflection, with perfectly even, gleaming white teeth. A patterned bandana was over his forehead, keeping his golden-brown dreadlocks out of his face. He’d always liked his dreadies – thankfully, he hadn’t seen his mother in years, as she would have gone mad with a pair of kitchen scissors at the sight of him. “You still staring at your reflection?” It was Tina, who did the morning-midday shift. “You know it.” Replied Zeke, flashing another flawless grin. Tina’s smugness faltered, and she blushed. Excellent. Thought Zeke, Why do I have this effect on girls, anyway? “G’wan, get out of here. Go get some breakfast, Zeke.” “You said it, later Tina.” Zeke wasn’t even his real name. Zeke was short for Zee which was really Xi, which was short for Xian, and that was really Xianthaniel. Zeke was commercial, Zeke was cool. What a guy. He coasted out of Neopian Radio studios, and walked down the wet street towards Mickey’s. Lightning flashed somewhere in the sky and the power went out, little to Zeke’s knowledge or care. He was much to interested in how wet his jeans were getting.
