chapter twenty-eight--all my fault
"You thought we were going to break up?" Zelda asked, laughing. "Not at all, Danal. Just because your father dies and I become possessed by the evil spirit inside me doesn't mean we're going to break up. I love you both too much."
"I think he was thinking of that cursed spell Zaela tried to use on me and Ganon used on you Zelda." Link told her, "No... I wouldn't do anything like that to you mom Danal." He added.
"Sorry..." Danal muttered, somewhat embarrassed.
"It's okay, Danal, don't be embarrassed. If anyone should be embarrassed here it's me. I was put under a spell and fell into fake love with my own creation."
Link shook his head. "You didn't create Ganon, but its not your fault. He just over powered you, that's all... Any ways, I can forgive you."
"No, Link," Zelda said. "I did create Ganon. Zaela made me. And she is me, of course, so technically speaking, I'm the one who created him. It was in my last life. I wasn't Princess Zelda but I was somewhat like me. I created Ganon and about twenty years later he killed me. I was reborn as Princess Zelda and then eleven or so years later he came back, and that's when I met you."
“If you say so,” Link said. “I’m not going to bother arguing with you.”
“You don’t believe me, do you?”
Link shook his head. "Its not that... I'm just out of it and only able to some what follow you. That's all..."
"It's okay, I'm just being overly sensitive." Zelda stood and walked a little ways away. She looked into the sky, the breeze blowing her blonde hair behind her head. Her eyes began to water as tears welled up behind them. Then she sat on the ground, pulled up her knees and buried her face into them, her shoulders heaving from her silent sobs.
Link slowly got a bit unsteadily to his feet and shook his head at Danal when the boy started to follow him. Link walked over at sat back down beside Zelda. "What's wrong?" He asked, putting his arms around her.
Zelda didn't answer him for a long time. She cried and cried for about twenty minutes before speaking again. "It's just--" she said finally, trying and failing to wipe away the river of tears coming out of her eyes, "--It's just that all of this is my fault. Had I stood up to Zaela during the time she wanted me to create Ganon, none of this would've happened! I'd be alive in my other life and you all would be so much better off. I mean, really, look how much damage me, one person, has made to this world!"
"But, because you did, we met... Your stronger from your past, also...It'll be fine.." Link told her gently. He glanced over and noticed Danal was slowly making his way over to them.
“You two don’t deserve to be stuck with a monster like me.”
Link shook his head. “You’re not a monster. I certainly don’t see you as one.”
"No, Link! Every time Zaela or I kill someone, their spirit gets locked up inside of my own. I'm currently holding Zaela's, Ganon's, and that creepy preacher guy from our wedding! And I almost got you trapped in there too. When more get inside me, more come out and kill more. I'm pretty much a holder of angry spirits and if they get released there's no telling what I'll be forced to do. I'm not like everyone else, Link. I don't have choices to make when it concerns my life. It's all been planned out. One day I'm going to destroy the world without really meaning to and you will all be dead and unable to stop me." She sobbed again. "I wish Zaela hadn't made me an immortal. Then I could end my misery permanently."
“I’m sorry, Zelda. I didn’t mean to upset you...”
"I just think that...well, that everything would be a lot better if I was never born. In fact, I think I just might go home and do that."
"Huh? Sorry, but I'm not sure that I follow you... I don't want to lose you a third time, not again..."
"No, Link, I can't die, remember?" She stood up. "But I can use some magic to make it so I was never born. Then I could see just how much happier you all are." She began to walk back to Hyrule.
Link got up and went after. "Zelda, don't do this. Please, don't do..." He said, turning back and quickly nodding of Danal to follow, who did.
"I'm going to do this, Link. There is a way to make it so that it can all be the same as now, but I just want to see how happy and great the world is without their Majesty, Queen Zelda." She turned away from them. "Do not follow me." And with that, she walked away.
Link shook his head, and chose to not listen to her and hurried to getup to her. He hugged her and leaning over her shoulder kissed her. "You’re not getting rid of me that easily..."
"Back off, Link," she hissed at him, way off the harsh level. It seemed as though all the spirits inside her made her say it. She could feel it inside her. Her arms pushed him away—well, more like shoved him away—and she began to run.
Link whistled and went after her. NightWind came up beside him, and he jumped on him and caught up to Zelda. "I'm not leaving you." He said firmly.
"Fine then. Be that way. I'll just conjure the spell right here."
She muttered a few words and put her hands together. A bright white light surrounded her and then she was gone.
