Will's eyes were as blank as scrubbed plates. His voice was soft and held a small dose of sympathy. "You call me boy, but you are none too older than I. How old are you? You can't be too much older than me."

"My point exactly. I am fifteen, due to become sixteen in under a month's time." He sighed and pulled his collar out of Niko's grasp. "Look at you. You're sixteen years old, and you live the life of a dirty garbage scowl. You command an entire crew of pirates. Most of them look older than you. They could no doubt kill you if they felt like it."

Niko was taken aback by Willefethen's question. Finally, he managed to say, "Well, no... not exactly. But why would I care? Pirates don't need women! Why bother? Our only loves are the sea and thievery, and they seem to love us back just as well. Women just get in the way."

Will's words finally tugged at Niko's interest. He frowned, and in a painfully meek voice, asked, "And what if she despises me? Will the so-called 'love' just go away?"

He shook his head. "No, it will not go away. In fact, you will love her even more than if she loved you back. You'd do anything to win her love, and it will hurt every time your attempts fail. You'll have to pretend she's already yours so your heart doesn't break every time you look into her eyes. You will hate loving her, but you will. You will be filled with endless pain and rejection... You will hate yourself."

Niko winced. He then shook it off and put on his usual attitude again. "Yeah, I doubt that'll ever happen. I'll never hate myself. My heart will never break, especially not for some stupid girl."

"Hmph" was all Niko gave as a reply, but thoughts began to stir in his mind. What if what the Aisha said was true? Would he really fall in love? She would probably be a pirate, one that shared his love of looting and life on the sea. Ha, if he did love, it definitely wouldn't be someone who hated him. And he'd break her heart first, whoever 'she' was.
The two of them put up a sort of camp and managed to get some sort of a fire going. Dark was approaching quickly. They ate their rations and then went to sleep.
Fires raged and screams pierced the night sky. A shadowy figure grabbed a human girl. The human fought against it, but a dagger was quick to sink into her heart, so she couldn't fight for long. A little yellow Lupe, age five, gasped in terror. The shadow dropped the human to the floor and headed for the trembling Lupe.
Niko sat up straight upon waking. He was sweating. It was morning, so he let out a sigh of relief.

Will did not sleep well that night at all. The icy cold nipped at his face and he had to hide his face even under the blanket. The times he did fall asleep were not for long, as he rose constantly throughout the night in discomfort. He noticed once or twice that Niko remained asleep and looked deep in some sort of dream. By his sweating face and constant tossing and turning in his sleep, Will could tell it was not a good one.
At the first break of light, Will gave up on sleep and began an attempt to make a fire.
