"... night." Dhia walked off down the hall to his bedroom and collapsed on the bed, fully clothed. He buried his head in his pillow and groaned, wanting to undo the last five minutes and start again.... After a few minutes he began to doze, visions of faerie bori triapsing through his mind... His room was small and quite uninteresting - apart from a few band posters here and there, it was rather empty. Moonlight from the window could be seen shining throught the open door.

Cera nodded and watching him disappear into a room. All became dark and quiet and the feeling of loneliness swept over her. She sighed and fell onto the pillows that were piled on the couch. They smelled like him which was comforting but still..... She lay there for about an hour before the unfamiliar house, the pitch black darkness, and the quietness became a little too much. She was so used to the city where cars were driving around all night and the street lights kept the night from getting too dark. She blindly searched for the remote and found it on the table before turning the tv back on. It took a while for it to warm up but as it did she immediately turned the volume down.

There was a noise from the lounge room... people were talking. Dhiablos sat up quickly, wondering who the hell were in his house... he reached for his pocket-knife blindly and quietly left the room. When he came into the hall he thought he heard laughter... a whole crowd of people laughing? After a few minutes thought it became apparent that the TV was on, showing one of those late-night comedies. Dhia rubbed his eyes and shuffled over to the couch, leaning over the back of it. "Can't sleep huh?" he asked quietly with a smile.

Cera jumped, "Oh... I didn't hear you..." She said and blushed slightly, "Yeah...." She said and shrugged, "I'm sorry if I woke you." She said and frowned to herself. "I figured I'd fall asleep after a while." She said and shrugged slightly. She found herself extremely happy to see him. Even though she was upset that she had waken him.

Dhia shrugged. "S'okay, I wasn't that tired anyway," and I'd rather be with you than being in my room wishing I was... He sat down on the couch next to Cera, the light from the TV reflecting from their faces. Dhia fiddled with his collar absent-mindedly. "So.. what're you watching? I didn't think there was anything good on after 11..."

"Watching? Eh, I don't know.... I just flipped it on." Cera shrugged and looked down at the remote, locating the channel button and quickly flipping through the channels, staying on the ones that looked interesting a few seconds longer. "If you see something you like tell me." She said with a smile, "I'll watch anything." She said and the stopped, "Actually, here, you pick something." She said, handing him the remote and snuggling up against the back of the couch.

Dhia took the remote and began to flick through the channels, finding nothing interesting until he saw a familiar face. "Oh god." he said resignedly, listening to the news reporter. "This xweetok has recognised as a kleptomaniac, and is highly dangerous. Civilians have been told to call Neighbourhood Watch if they see this person...." "Ugh... I hate the police." He glared at the news report with distaste, which now showed the Head of Neopia Central Police, warning citizens not to approach said xweetok.

Cera frowned, "They're just doing their job...." She said and watched as the reporter continued on, "Someone has to keep the streets safe...." She said and then smiled, "From horrible people like you." She said sarcastically nudging him. "But yeah, you shouldn't really hate them... They are good people." She said and frowned again.

His heart thumped almost painfully at the nudge, but he continued. "No they're not," he said argumentedly, remembering several incidences of police brutality. "What experiences have you had to make you say that? Most people don't even know anyone who works in the police force, and assumes they're this untainted, perfect collection of people." Dhia shook his head. "No-one's perfect or untainted." Except you, of course.

"They are trained to help people. If that means they have to hurt you or someone else to get to the one really in trouble then they'll do that..." Cera said though she didn't like the idea of Dhia getting hurt. "And I know some officers don't always go by the rules but just think of how it might be if they weren't here..... There would be total chaos!" She said, really starting to get into this.

Dhia snorted. "It wouldn't be chaos for a second. The law would simply change to survival of the fittest. No big deal."

"It's a big deal when people like me get hurt..." Cera muttered, looking away from him and staring back at the tv. The reporter was on a different story now, something about teachers on strike at some school in Mystery Island. She let out a sigh and leaned back into the couch, crossing her arms as she sunk back into the cushion.

Dhia looked at her. "Well yeah, I mean.." he frowned, somehow he'd offended her and he didn't know why. "I didn't mean you, I mean... People like you wouldn't get hurt.." Because there'd be people like me to protect you.. He leant back into the couch, so his legs stuck out and his feet were flat on the floor.

Cera looked over at him with a raised eyebrow, "Why do you say that? How do you know that thieves, murderers, and who knows who else wouldn't come after me? Especially if no one is there to stop them?" She asked, not seeing his line of thought, "I don't know..." She sighed and closed her eyes, "It's late. I don't think either of us are thinking straight..." She said and opened her eyes to glance over at him.

"You're probably right." He smiled slightly and stared blankly at the TV screen, which was now moving on to sports. "Maybe we should get some sleep.... oh cool, Roo Island won the semifinals..."
