"No, the bed was fine," she said. "I only need five hours of sleep, that's all. I actually slept in a little longer than I usually do." She laid down beside him and put her head on the pillow, their noses touching. She wrapped her fingers through his and smiled.

Lue hesitated but kissed her lightly on the lips, he was getting more comfortable with doing that now. He smiled and glanced over at Rasi who was still out cold over on his side of the room. Lue doubted that he would be waking up anytime soon. He looked back over at Amma and wrapped his free arm around her.

She nuzzled her face in his neck and closed her eyes, breathing in his scent. She remembered years ago when they would give each other hugs and get in trouble for it. The Rekah didn't like love and Amma was the last generation to have been created with that flawed ability. But that was a flaw that Amma was glad to have been given. She'd had feelings for Lue even back then. "How did you sleep?" she murmured dully.

Lue kissed the top of her head, "I dreamt of you last night so I slept wonderfully." He said and held her close. He would have fallen back asleep if it weren't for the nagging fear that Sarah would come by or that Rasi would wake up. Or the fact that his heart was racing again.

Amma blushed really red at his comment. She squeezed his hand gently for a moment and then asked, "Really? What was your dream about?" She wasn't at all tired, but she kept her eyes closed and didn't move.

Lue didn't even consider his answer when he spoke, he just continued without thinking. "You, when we met, what you looked like when I first saw you, how I feel about you, what the past was like, what the future might be like, your scent, your hair, your face when you blush...." He trailed off, his words slurred together as he continued to list all sorts of things. Then he shrugged, smiled, and squeezed her, "What about you, dream anything interesting?" He said when he snapped out of his little trance.

She listened intently as he listed to her automatically all the things he dreamed about with a blush creeping onto her cheeks the whole time. She blushed again when he asked her if she'd dreamed anything, but it was in sadness. "No..." she replied sadly. "I can't dream." Her brain was so busy trying to recharge it for the day while she slept that her subconscious had no time to give her anything to dream about. She was exhausted and fell asleep one moment, and the next she was awake and feeling wide awake.

Lue frowned a little, "Oh?" He said surprised that she couldn't dream, he thought everyone could do that. Then again they were hybrids and had all sorts of oddities. "Well maybe if you slept more you could actually relax and dream instead of just cram all your sleeping into five hours." He said with a chuckle, "I was just joking around.... I still think that's insane though. I would be dead tired if I tried to sleep 5 hours...." He said and let out another yawn.

"I automatically wake up when my body's done resting," Amma told him, moving herself so she faced the ceiling. "So I don't know if I can sleep in much longer than that even if I wanted to." She thought briefly about how flawed Lue was compared to her, on terms of how they were supposed to have been made. The Rekah had been defeated for the most part, and the majority of hybrids in the world were dead now. She and Lue were lucky to be alive. When the attention was focused on hybrids=bad, the slaughters started. But there'd be more.

"Hmmmmm...." Lue muttered, finding this odd. "I can probably go on 5 hours I just like to sleep I guess." He said and shrugged again, "Or that's just another thing that's wrong with me." He said with another frown. "I'm guessing that's why they kept you but let me go. You're smart, can regain your energy quickly, figure out things, and whatnot. I blow smoke." He muttered, blowing out a small cloud after his sentence. He had other good qualities too but they were just minor.

Amma shook her head. "I would've been released at age ten, too, because I'm not built to their perfection," she explained. "The lab was destroyed before they could get rid of me. They don't really expect us to live long after being let out on our own, but they erase our memories anyway. That's why they were so surprised when they found you." She looked away, slightly uncomfortable and wondering how much she should tell him. "Anyway, what's done is done, the past is the past... and I think it's best to stay that way." She forced a convincing smile. "So, want to do something?"

Lue had to think about that for a while, "What? Who found me? What's in the past?" He said sitting up, confused. He stared at her for a while, knowing she was keeping something from him. "What are you talking about....." He said after a while, feeling hurt that she was already keeping secrets from him. All the feelings of lightheadedness and butterflies disappeared and were replaced by confusion and let down. "Amma?"

She found herself crying, but it was a pathetic, dry cry. She wished, not for the first time, that she could produce tears. "I don't know how much I should tell you," she whispered miserably. "You do not realize how much I would love to know as little as you do. You shouldn't even know that you were artificially made, not born. You don't need to know anything more. You want to, understandably, but... I don't really want to tell you. The truth, the reality of it all, is so gruesome and disgusting.... we become less and less like people as the generations go on. You are so much closer to being a real person than I am. I can't dream, I can't cry... But I am still so lucky, because I am in the last generation of hybrids that can love..."

Lue stiffened at the sound of her 'crying'. His jaw tightened as he ground his teeth with each and every one of her words. He still didn't understand, how the hell did the people take away their ability to love? Cry he could understand, just a simple gland or something but love? dream? He shook his head, "Being an older generation isn't as great as you think... I have still beat you in the 'who's worse off' competition." He sighed and closed his eyes, not caring how 'gruesome' reality was, "So what is this truth?" He said not in an angered tone but more of a confused, wondering, annoyed tone.

"I would do anything to be more like you than like myself," she murmured. "And... well... I suppose if you want the truth... I'll spare you the details and give you the basics. You see... the whole deal with the Rekah and the Devastation.... that was our fault. Not yours and mine, but our 'kind'. We were made as experiments to become 'super people', I guess you could say." She stopped crying and sighed.
"The lab we were made in was one of many hidden around Neopia, controlled by the Rekah. They weren't doing so well at first, but after your generation was made, they had a breakthrough and didn't stop developing. The ideal hybrid has an insanely quick ability to learn, and didn't have petty, 'normal' distractions. My IQ, for example, easily flies off the chart. But we were going to set a new chart, where it was natural to have an IQ of, say, 400. It wasn't meant to be evil..."
She sighed again, and sniffed. "But... that's never how things work out. There's just some things science can't accomplish. They got better and better and closer and closer to reaching their goals. You're the oldest of us that's still alive. After you, we stopped making tears when we cried. We stopped dreaming. We started getting very smart very fast. We stopped needing so much sleep. But there were still the 'petty emotions' distracting us. So, after me, love went out the door. I don't know why they chose to get rid of love before the other emotions. They tried and failed to get rid of it in my generation, and succeeded in the one after me. With that out of the way, they could easily focus on destroying other unneeded emotions such as sorrow, fear, and happiness. They're like the walking dead, but they're sure smart."
