Is the setting of night in a city alright? Just a random one, not the one that Drift grew up in, lolz.
It was close to midnight. The nightclub crowd was out and about, young adult neopets dressed in all their finery weaving about on the street, chattering and walking and firing up their cars and motorbikes. Neon lights and signs illuminated the darkness, and it was a bright, strange world. The night was just starting for this group. As it was for another individual, here for an entirely different purpose.
Driftfern Louden blended easily enough with the group, that was for sure. His clothing (t-shirt, jeans, belt..) were dark, and although he was wearing sunglasses at nighttime, it drew little attention, seeing as others were, for fashion. He needed them to hide the bright green crescent marking over his eye, just as his long sleeves hid identical markings on his forearm.
The gelert stopped suddenly, pressing himself, almost, to a building to avoid the flow of human traffic, and pulled a small scrap of paper out of his pocket, reading it in the neon glare.
Poison Heart
was all it said in hastily scrawled letters, mirroring the name of the nightclub just across the street from him, crowds of the "alternative" sort flowing from the entrance and gathering on the street.
Despite himself, he allowed a grim smile, ripping the paper to shreds and scattering it, before heading across the street.

(( sure, that's fine [: ))
She leaned against a wall, watching the partygoers on the street with a mixture of boredom and impatience. The wall, in question, was below one of the neon signs that lit up the street; the cheesy pink glow it emitted reflected on her large, blood-red eyes and from the horn that grew from her forehead.
The uni not only blended with the crowd, she was almost unnoticeable. Clad in a black cloak that fell to her knees and a pair of faded jeans, she could have passed off as one of the 'alternative' crowd. If she wanted to. Her ears, protuding from her spiky, steel-grey hair listened to the conversation of two people nearby. They had drugs. Rupalia folded her arms and smiled cryptically, her tufted tail swaying.
Tonight would be productive.

The gelert glanced around him, checking to see if anyone was really watching him - sure, a few glanced at him, but no-one was paying too close attention. Perfect.
Without further ado he entered the club, ears fluttering behind him, immedietly being immersed in pounding music and flashing lights - people were everywhere: dancing, sitting, or just standing about. He didn't see who he was looking for... yet.

(( I thought you'd died. xD ))
Rupalia watched intently from her peripheral vision as they injected themselves with some sort of toxin. She waited. No. This wasn't it. She pondered as to why she'd been called here. go inside the club, you fool. Rue frowned with irritation but entered the club. Was she looking for one person, instead of many? Perhaps tonight wouldn't be as productive as first thought. She made her way swiftly to the bar, ignoring the displays of light flooding the room and the bass that flooded her brain. She sat on a stool, curling her dark feathered, wings around her. "Anything you're after?" a voice asked over the noise. A pink ogrin stood at the bar, offering drinks.

(me too, lol. Hey, do you want me to make Rue the one Drift's looking for (or vice versa)?) After a few moments of useless trolling around the club, Drift mentally reported with dissapointment that his objective was not here. Maybe not yet anyways. He had checked the dance floor, scanned the tables closely, and the men's restroom, even going so far as to wonder if they were in the Female's restroom. In the end he finally returned to the bar, aware that he was walking by the same people multiple times and it would only be a matter of time before one decided to take note of that. With a sigh he took a seat, eying the bright pink Ogrin's fur with some annoyance at it's brightness, before ordering a drink, then sitting there, looking zoned out, but in reality weighing his options.

(sure! sorry I haven't been on, school's eating me alive.)
The Ogrin came back with her cocktail, handed it to Rue and gave someone next to her a drink. She swirled the acid-red contents of her drink, then had some. The taste could have been likened to cough medicine, but she didn't complain. Rupalia glanced sideways at her neighbour, noticing sunglasses but seeing a crescent. It wasn't like it was visible or anything, it just seemed to stand out through the sunglasses, as did the ones on his arms. But they were less important. The one above his eye was persistent. Like a sign. Something clicked. She probed his appearance. Dark cloak, dark shirt, dark.... everything. That was natural of this environment. But he didn't seem to fit. He seemed to be waiting.

The gelert raised his drink to his mouth, though lowering it after a small sip - he could not afford to have his senses blurred. Not tonight. Turning his head, he allowed his gaze to wander across the dance floor and the tables, holding his drink in one hand.
Gradually, however, he realized he was being watched, practically feeling eyes boring thru him. Resisting the instinctive urge to whip around and discover the culprit, he stared straight ahead, sticking to his peripheral vision - uni, female. Definately watching him. Taking another drink, he glanced over casually to get a better view of this person and figure out why he was being examined so scrutinously.
Drift's eyes widened behind his glasses, once he waw the uni's face - she was his elusive target, according to the snapshot he had been shown. How foolish of him to sit right next to her without realizing it!
"Good evening?" he said to her, forcing his voice to sound quizical, almost wary.

Rupalia said nothing and just smiled, still looking at him with her blood-red, lamplike eyes. She had noticed the vaguest signs of surprise, but he had surpressed them rather quickly. Why had he been able to do that? Had he been trained in some way? Or was it just a skill he readily possessed? "Yes, it is." She took another sip of her drink. (( short post ))

((I'm trying to think of a reason why Drift would be looking for her. The most I can come up with is she was making some ruckus with the people that hired him? Do you have any suggestions? ^^;; ))
Though that was a less than satisfactory answer leaving him little to be able to readily respond to, Drift was glad to have an excuse to look at the Uni more closely, if only for a few seconds.
Yup. She was definately who he was looking for, no mistake... What had they said her name was?
Furrowing his brow quizically, he made another stab at conversation, "Don't mind me for being rude, but I'm curious. You don't really seem to be the type for a place like this.." he gestured behind him with a palm, to the rest of the club where others, were no doubt dancing rowdily among other such things. It was a cheesy, generic line, but it could work, he reasoned.

(( well, generally she is the guardian of the HW's graveyard, so anything left or buried with the dead. She finds and kills graverobbers too. If that helps. ^^; I dunno, Drift's a mercenary isn't he? has he ever had to dig up a body? (; ))
"Neither do you," she replied smoothly, taking another sip and ruffling her wings irritably. Rue stirred her cocktail with the coloured umbrella that came with it. Her ears flicked forwards and gave the stranger her full attention.

((sorry for taking so long, lol. I got it! Drift might've dug up a body before.. but he sure works for people who do it all the time, plus defile graves, steal stuff etc... who he would have been hired to hunt their killer down.. And at the same time Rue could be looking for them? sounds complicated and drama ful))
This was getting nowhere. "What makes you say that?" he responded, after waiting several beats to answer the question in a leisurely manner, making it appear that his brain wasn't currently racing behind his skull.
He briefly narrowed his eyes under the lenses, relishing in this one thing he could not be detected at, and considered his options. Drift had been told his target was dangerous, and although she seemed benign, albeit witty... at the moment, he was not stupid and knew not to underestimate.

((squee!))
"Well for one thing, you're married," she said, pointing to the gelert's wedding ring. ((if he doesn't have a ring/isn't wearing it, ignore this part)) "You seem a little to stiff and uniform to be cruising a nightclub." She looked at him questioningly.

(He has one :3)
Drift smiled, an automatic response, looking down at his hand. The gold ring was firmly in place, where it usually was.. where it was supposed to be... but not tonight. How could he have forgotten to take it off? But that was in the past, he filed it away:
Mistake. His.
He smiled a bit wider, pretending to look at it more closely in the dancing lights of the club, "That I am. Very happily." he added with different tone, making the laughable (in this circumstance, taking into account the identity of the Uni beside him), addition that he was not interested.
But it was to be expected- he did this often enough to know that your typical clubber would expect it. He took a sudden decision then, knowing it was a great risk, but the results would be far worth it if it worked. The gelert leaned in slightly, to give the tone of more confidentiality.
"I'm not cruising. I'm... Waiting for someone."

"Curious." Then she fell silent, her consciousness trailing into her thoughts. So what was he waiting for? His wife? A hidden lover? Or was it a disguised meeting of business? Business was of her concern, particularly if he was the one she was looking for. Track him. it hissed. Probe him. Find what he's looking for. "Business or Leisure?" she asked, more to herself than anything. She drained her drink, the alcohol taking no effect on her spectral form.
