Zcy giggled, and then her face fell. "Do you think Tack is going to kill me?" she asked quietly. "He almost succeeded back there."

Strips was smiling until Zcy mentioned Tack, and then he hung his head and looked down at the ground. "Well, that's hard to say. If he catches up to us, I'm sure he'll try..." He looked back up at her, a warm smile on his face. "...But I won't let him."

She smiled at this, and then moved over to give him a tight hug. "Thanks, Strips," she said. "You're like a dad-brother combo, neither of which I ever had."

At first, Strips was surprised; his ears pinned back and he just sat there for a moment. He hadn't expected a hug, especially from someone like her, someone who didn't like to touch people. But after a moment, he smiled, and hugged her back; he was happy to hear this. "Well, it's nice to know I've at least done one good thing in my life," he half whispered.

She then pulled away, and smiled. She hadn't heard what he'd said. Somehow, it was terrifying to touch people, but touching Strips was easy. Her strange autistic body trusted him completely to never hurt her, to protect her, and because of that, she could touch him without fear.
"So, it's night out, are we going to leave and keep escaping the desert or stay here and wait for Tack while our food and water supply runs low?"

Strips chuckled slightly, "logic dictates we leave."
He was tired, but knew that if they didn't walk by night, the desert heat would consume them in the morning. He liked heat as much as the next guy, but after a certain point he just couldn't stand it anymore.
"If we get lucky, we'll reach a city before dawn, or perhaps make it to Alisa's house, though I have no idea where it is from here." Toward the end of his statement he was talking to himself.

"Who is Alisa?" she asked as she broke the electric barrier at the entrance to their hideout and poked her head outside to check and make sure Tack was nowhere to be seen.

"Oh, um, just a girl I know. She lives in the lost desert, and yeah, she would give us a safe place to rest."
He wasn't sure how it happened, but somehow her question caught him off guard. The entire time he was trying to answer her, he was stuttering and choking on his words.
He stood as much as he could manage in this small cave, and prepared to follow Zcy out.

Tack's blood had been pouring onto the hot sand all day until he stoped for a rest. When he woke, he walked around untill he heard some voices. It was dark, and he hid, he saw Zcy's head poke out of a hole in the rock he was up against and Stripes following quickly behind. He grinned.

Zcy crawled out of the cave and stepped back for Strips to come through. She looked around. It was oddly quiet. Something was wrong. A funky smell reached her nose; she sniffed and covered her nose with both hands. She smelled blood.
Trailing her eyes toward the source of the smell, she saw a small trail of blood coming from the distance around to behind the rock-cave she and Strips had hid in all day. Cautiously, she made her way around to it, until she came face to face with Tack.

Strips followed Zcy out of the cave, but failed to follow her behind it. He hadn't picked up on the smell of blood, perhaps because he had become desensitized to it over the years. He had glanced in Zcy's direction long enough to know where she had gone, but his attention didn't stay on her for long. He didn't think she would get into any trouble; however, he also didn't know Tack was over there...
